Red Varietals

Sangiovese

sangiovese is a red italian wine grape variety that derives its name from latin, meaning 'the blood of love." at least 14 sangiovese clones exist, of which brunello is one the best regarded. young sangiovese has fresh fruity floavors of strawberry and a little spiciness, but it readilty takes on oaky, even tarry, flavors when aged in barrel. while not as aromatic as other red wine varieties, sangiovese often has a flavor profile of sour red cherries with earthy aromas and tea leaf notes. wines made from sangiovese usally have medium-plus tannis and high acidity.
